AI game master for solo roleplaying

Play your own D&D adventure, entirely solo.

An AI plays the game master and brings a hand-written adventure to life; an honest rules engine rolls the dice. You just type what you do. No group, no fixed night and no rulebook required.

Every adventure is written by an author, with a real beginning, real choices and a real ending.

How it plays
Game master

One seat left on the last shuttle. The engineer who can fly it, or the girl looking for her mother. The airlock hisses. Ten seconds.

You

I give up my own seat and push them both inside.

Charisma · authority Fate is with you
Game master

The captain hesitates, then salutes. The doors close with you outside. Through the glass, the girl lays her hand against the window.

Game master

The saloon goes quiet as you walk in. The barkeep wipes a glass and won’t look at you. ‘Your brother isn’t welcome here. And you wear his name.’

You

I lay my revolver on the bar and slide it toward her. ‘No trouble. I just want to know what happened to my brother.’

Charisma · persuasion Fate turns away
Game master

She slides your revolver back, untouched. ‘Pretty words.’ Behind you, a hammer cocks. ‘But Cole heard your name before you walked in.’

Game master

The wolf-sized hound guards the gate, head on its paws, one eye half open. Behind it, the key hangs on a hook.

You

I take the dried meat from my pack and slide it slowly toward it.

Wisdom · animal handling Fate is with you
Game master

The eye opens, then the head sinks back. A satisfied growl. Your hand is on the key before it realises you were there.

The idea

The AI narrates. The dice decide.

Roleplaying around a table with friends is wonderful, but it rarely comes together: no regular group, schedules that never line up, or nobody who wants to run the game. Dobbelganger is there for exactly those evenings. Play solo whenever it suits you, or quietly practise before your first session at a real table.

And no, the AI does not cheat. It does what it is good at: narrating, playing characters and improvising on whatever you come up with. But the outcome of a roll never comes from the model. A real, deterministic rules engine rolls it, just like stones on a table. That keeps the game honest, even if you distrust AI.

AI AI tells the story
+
Engine The engine rolls fair

Why Dobbelganger

Not a chatbot. A real game.

Fair play, down to the dice

The game master invents the story, but never the outcome. Every roll comes from a real dice-and-rules engine: a d20 plus your character’s talents against an honest difficulty. The model cannot cheat, so your wins are genuinely earned.

The world remembers everything

Promises, quarrels, allies and what is in your pack: it all sticks, chapter after chapter. The innkeeper remembers you skipped the bill last time, and the sword you found is still there later. No memory loss halfway through your story.

Music that breathes with the scene

The soundtrack follows the story: calm by the campfire, tension in the dark, a swell at the climax. The game master picks the mood and your browser crossfades the music seamlessly. Immersion without lifting a finger.

No rulebook required, unless you want one

Just type what your character does; the rules stay invisible. Prefer to see the numbers, a full character sheet and real 3D dice? One click and advanced mode is on. From pure story mode to full D&D mechanics.

How it works

Into your story in three steps.

Choose an adventure

Browse written campaigns, from western to dark fairy tale, each with its own world, tone and ending.

Become the main character

Pick a ready-made character or make your own. Describe who you are in a few lines; no number crunching needed.

Play

Type what you do. The game master narrates on, the dice fall, the world reacts. Your story, your pace, all the way to the climax.

Two ways

For people who never rolled a die, and for those who know the rulebook by heart.

Story mode

Story mode

No numbers, no barrier. Read, choose and experience; the rules stay under the hood. Perfect when you simply want to play a good story.

Advanced mode

Advanced mode

A full character sheet, visible rolls and real 3D dice on the table. For those who love the D&D mechanics most of all.

A cheerful party of adventurers by the hearth

Your party

Solo, but never alone.

You play solo, but you never travel alone. A world of characters with wills of their own lives around you: some become friends, others enemies, and all of them remember what passed between you.

They stand by you, or leave you to fall when it counts. A real party, even on your own.

Real freedom

Do the unexpected. The world plays along.

You don’t follow buttons or ready-made choices. Talk your way past a guard, forge an alliance, throw out the plan; the game master improvises with you and the consequences last. This is your story, not a pre-drawn path.

Questions

Good to know.

Do I need D&D experience?

No. In story mode you simply type what you do and all the mechanics stay invisible. Never roleplayed before? This is the gentlest way to start.

How is this different from a regular AI chatbot?

A chatbot pretends to roll dice and quickly forgets what happened. In Dobbelganger the rolls come from a real rules engine, and the game firmly tracks your location, your items and your relationships. It is a game with stakes, not a loose conversation.

Is this really D&D?

It runs on a light version of the D&D 5e rules (the open SRD), so the checks and your character feel familiar. It does not replace an evening with your own group, but it is a real roleplaying experience you play solo.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Dobbelganger runs entirely in your browser, on laptop, tablet or phone. Create an account and you are playing right away.

Can I play alone?

Yes, that is exactly what it is built for: for when you want to play solo, can’t get a group together, or want to practise D&D. Your story, your pace. Playing together with friends is coming later.

Does the AI really play fair?

Yes. The game master narrates, but the rolls come from a separate, deterministic rules engine, not the language model. So the model cannot bend the outcome.

Which languages can I play in?

English and Dutch, the whole experience: the menus, the game master and the adventures themselves. You pick the language per adventure.

What does it cost?

The first chapter of every adventure is free to play. If you want to keep going, you buy that adventure in one go, no subscription and no credits. So you only pay for the adventures you actually want to finish.

How does buying an adventure work?

You play the first chapter free. If you like it, you buy the complete adventure in one go, no subscription and no credits. Every purchase comes with a free Replay Pass to experience the adventure once more; if you want to play it again after that, you buy another run.

How can I pay?

You pay securely with iDEAL, Bancontact, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. None of those work for you? Email us at [email protected] with the adventure you want and we'll sort it out together with a bank transfer. That way nobody is left out.
