Something taps at the shutters, too light for a hand, too deliberate for the wind. I don't open them. The innkeeper whispered an old custom to me, and I scatter salt across the threshold without knowing whether it helps. The tapping stops for a moment, then shifts in tone, almost disappointed. Somewhere outside, something laughs softly. Every so often a child vanishes from this hamlet, and it's slowly dawning on me that no one stays here by chance.
From the writer
Fairy tales used to be warnings, not comfort. For Willowmere I wanted to return to that old, dark wood: a hamlet that keeps silent, a moor that takes, and the question of what people are willing to pay to be left alone. I tore this story down and rebuilt it more often than I care to admit; what remains is small, quiet and exactly sharp enough. And don't believe everything the grown-ups tell you.

Reads like a grim fairy tale. Now and then I wanted to move faster than the story did, but the atmosphere makes up for a lot.
Well. I told myself one more scene, and suddenly it was a quarter past midnight. The marsh, that little horse, that chair... I am getting goosebumps again just typing this. Just play it.
Perfectly fine adventure, nicely written, but I prefer action and it is thin on the ground here. Matter of taste.
The narrator kept up surprisingly well when I tried something very different from what was probably intended. That impressed me. And the music deserves a mention too, it quietly does a lot.
That first evening at the inn lands straight away. Everyone stays silent, you can feel something is off, and from there it does not let go.
Spent three evenings on it and not a single hiccup or weird glitch anywhere, it just feels finished. Compare that to what a night at the movies costs. The best one in the series so far, for me.
